Trips, Visits and Visitors

At St Bart’s we enrich our curriculum offer through a multitude of off site trips and by welcoming visitors into our school. See below for a flavour of some of the opportunities available at St Bart’s:

Residential Visits

Children have the opportunity to attend 3 residential visits during their time at St Bart’s. In Year 1, children spend one night at the Kingswood Trust where they take part in a range of outdoor learning opportunities and memorable experiences (including sleeping in dormitories with their friends and making their own beds!). They meet the centre animals, complete trails ad absolutely love the zip wire! This is always a highlight of their St Bart’s experience.

In Year 4, children spend 2 nights at Dovedale house in the Peak District. They take part in field studies, adventurous activities and thoroughly enjoy the stepping stone walk across the river (especially as it concludes with a trip to the ice-cream van!). Children love the games and quizzes at night and further develop their independence in a safe and secure environment with their friends.

In Year 6, children attend a 4 night activity holiday (currently Condover Hall in Shrewsbury). The fun never stops with 5 activities per day, including abseiling, lazer quest, canoeing, kayaking and camp fires to name just a few. This is a wonderful end to their time at St Bart’s and is repeatedly mentioned when Year 6 present their memories in their leavers service.

Many visitors come to St Bart’s and we are particularly proud of the relationship we have with our local community. Rev Ben visits regularly to conduct Worship or support our RE curriculum. Penn Puppets have performed for the whole school twice this year. We have also had wonderful talks from members of our local Sikh community and Gurdwara. This year already we have had 3 different author visits, including workshops with Pep the Poet to develop our pupils’ love for reading.

Years 3 and 4 have taken part in Anglo-Saxon and Viking experiences in school and we have taken part is Sign to Sing to help children develop and awareness and appreciation of the deaf community. EYFS have been visited by lots of “people who Help Us” and loved their visit from a police dog and the Animal Man. Additionally we hold curriculum days with our friends from schools across the St Bartholomew’s Trust and also visit their schools to take part in challenges and competitions. Wolverhampton Music School have performed for the whole school and we are looking forward to whole school maths workshops next month!
